The Inertia

Herbie Fletcher has seen and forgotten more surf history than most of us will ever know. He was just a kid out of Huntington Beach who really loved to surf and didn’t want to stop. So like the rest of the “surf industry” those days he created jobs where there weren’t any to find. He found his way to Hawaii and winged it from there, surfing Pipe, making boards, and figuring it all out again the next day.

It’s a refreshing throwback to what surfing used to be. Needless to say that same spirit of adventure is harder to find in a life built around surfing, for better or worse. But guys like Herbie are still here to remind us that one thing hasn’t changed: It’s all just art.
