The Inertia

Ireland is not a place for the lazy surfer. Not a place for a surfer with warm water and swaying palms in mind. It is, however, the place for a surfer who enjoys the fruits of their labor, because surfing in Ireland is not easy. Taz Knight knows that.

As a teen, the Brit spent summers on the Emerald Isle, camping out in an old school bus and surfing as much as possible. “For us it was like our second home, in a way,” he remembered in dryrobe’s latest film. “When you have those nostalgic memories of a place, you’re always drawn back to it.”

Which is why, at the end of 2018, Taz Knight decided to make it his home. In the four years since, he’s traipsed endlessly around the place, searching every nook and cranny for waves. He does, of course, have the better known spots dialed — as evidenced by the footage you see above — but that search isn’t always easy.

“Being a surfer in Ireland can be quite a challenge sometimes,” he said. “Conditions are so unpredictable. You get a lot of storms coming in, one after another. You really have to pick your moments and find your windows, but if you put your time in, you definitely get rewarded.”
