The Inertia

Tanner Hendrickson had one helluva summer. He got the result of his life when he became runner-up to Hiroto Ohhara at the 2015 Vans US Open of Surfing. It was a showing that’ll put him in good position for a WCT berth at start of the 2016 season, or perhaps another year down the road. And in addition to a rising competitive career, Tanner has shown that he absolutely shreds sans the singlet in and around his home of Maui.

He’s an integral addition to that long line of up and coming surfers from Maui – Matt Meola, Albee Layer, etc. – with explosive above-the-lip antics and a refined style. The latest clip to feature Tanner shows off that characteristic, go-for-broke style. Watch as Tanner leans into some serious laybacks in slo-motion. Whatever camera they used for this clip, it produced some next-level shit. And again, his progressive air game is something worth noting, too. Keep an eye out for Tanner, because surfing like this teamed with results like this year’s US Open could send this kid to the big leagues very soon.
