When the world was considered flat, the edges of map were treacherous places often guarded by sea monsters. Beyond this point, there be Dragons, Leviathan and the Kraken. Sea monsters of mythical proportions.
Well, I had a chance to swim with modern-day sea monsters. Large, heaving, scary, green-eyed, steam-breathing monsters.
