A swimmer was attacked by a shark in Pacific Grove, California yesterday as beachgoers swarmed to area beaches with the warm weather. According to witnesses, the swimmer called towards shore for help. Two paddleboarders responded, paddling out to the man who had apparently been bitten in the arm and torso area and was bleeding heavily.
Pacific Grove is in Monterey County, south of Santa Cruz. The region has seen plenty of shark activity in the recent past. In May of 2020, Santa Cruz shaper Ben Kelly was killed by a shark while surfing at Manresa State Beach, five miles west of Watsonville and about 40 minutes north of Pacific Grove.
The swimmer in Pacific Grove was not identified but his injuries were described as “serious.”
