The Inertia

It’s hard to get a novel perspective on Pipeline. It’s perhaps the most photographed wave in all of surfing, and rightfully so. However, it’s a testament to the ingenuity of surf photographers that they are still able to find fresh angles of the Seven Mile Miracle’s centerpiece.

This time, that angle comes courtesy of an edit from surfing YouTube mainstay Off Da Lip. In a sweeping drone shot, the footage follows the entire journey of a set wave at Pipe, from its first formation as an outer-reef ripple, all the way through North Shore legend John John Florence dropping in and navigating one of the waves of the winter.

However, that’s not the end of it. Immediately after, Riku Matsumoto paddles into another epic ride, followed by Kala Grace, Koa Rothman and Lucas Godfrey. It’s a mesmerizing sequence of events that can’t help but renew your appreciation for surfing’s center stage, and the chargers who make it their home.
