The Inertia

Surfers hunt waves. That’s what we do. I think it’s safe to say nothing beats pumping surf, empty line ups, warm offshore winds, and board shorts.

Our thirst for perfection is never quenched, and our surfing dreams extend well beyond our backyards, reaching far into international waters. Recently, I was faced with a tough decision.  10 Day Boat Trip with the boys in the Mentawais, or three weeks on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica with the girlfriend.

You’re probably thinking, “That’s easy. Do both: Ments in May and C.R. in July. You’re welcome!” Believe me, I tried. The three-headed corporate monster that I work for, though, has me trapped, chained to my desk, starving me of my freedoms, crushing my perfect wave hopes and shitting on my surfing dreams. My allocated and very limited annual leave has me by the balls, and not in a good way.

I thought I enjoyed playing the game “What would you rather,” but this is just mean.  I’ve thought long and hard about this decision, weighed out the pros and cons (honestly not many cons), imagined each day at each destination in my head, and I’m still very undecided. I genuinely love traveling with my girl, and Costa Rica has so much to offer other than super fun waves. The food, culture and yoga are like three juicy cherries on top of a Santa Teresa sundae. On the flip, I’ve never been to the Mentwais and opportunities like this happen once in a life time. I need the Inertia community’s help on the is one.  What would you do?
