The first decent south swell of the season ran into Southern California over the weekend, and, as is generally the case with the first decent south in Southern California, the excitement in the air was thick. All eyes were on those standout spots like Malibu and the Wedge, but for different reasons. While First Point is a perfect wave, the Wedge is a warping, wildly exciting mutant that does things no other wave can do.
The La Bomba swell delivered at the Wedge, and all the usual suspects (and more, of course) were there to partake. Daniel Hughes, Brad Domke, Blair Conklin, Mitchell Grant, Addy Giddings, Dawson Tylers, Mike Harris, Zach Levine Tyler Stanaland, Tyler Gunter, Jamie O’Brien, JJ Ayala, and Parker Mendenhall went hell for leather, and as usual, it was a sight to behold. Brent Weldon was there with camera in hand to capture all the action.
It’s the beginning of the south swell season, and if we’re lucky, it’s going to be a good one.
