Think of the back-to-back (to back-to-back-to-back) swells that came through Southern California this past month. Now, how high on the list of “best evers” do you think this one ranked in the history of the region?
I’m not sure if it was the best January ever — knowing what it’s like to live here during an El Niñ0 winter — but it certainly felt like every day of the month brought some quality surf. There were some big, solid days. There were smaller days that brought rippable conditions. And there were even some classic afternoons with strong, offshore Santa Ana winds grooming out the waves to near-perfect conditions. So, we can all agree January was pretty great for Southern California surfers. The only question to debate is: how great?
