The Inertia

In the days leading up to Sunday, March 26, a handful of big wave surfers had their eyes glued to the forecast. The approaching swell looked good for Tasmania’s wildest slab, and Shipstern Bluff aficionados were champing at the bit. A polar low was running up the ice shelf, about 200 degrees from the southwest, and it was expected to rise throughout Saturday night and peak on Sunday morning.

Among those who were keen on surfing Shippies were 16-year-old Ned Hart, 21-year-old Anne Dos Santos, 17-year-old Noah Hassett, Ollie Henry, and Kelly Nordstrom. All are at the front of those leading the big wave surfing charge in Australia.

Tim Bonython, a man who travels the world looking for big waves perhaps more than anyone else, was there to capture the day, and what a day it was.
