Lance’s Right is a dream wave. It’s literally a wave you dream about; a wave that, when it’s on, is video-game perfect. And on May 24, it showed up with its game face on.
It goes by a handful of names, as you know. HT’s or Hollow Trees, but the name Lance’s Right came after an Australian guy named Lance Knight set up shop on Sipora Island in the Mentawai archipelago. That was in the nineties, and he set up shop there because right out front was a wave that is very nearly perfect.
You may remember when, a few months ago, a charter boat wrecked on the reef there. Thankfully, no one was harmed and the reef itself wasn’t damaged. We’re always in the mood to see a perfect wave doing perfect things, so kick back and join us in the all-consuming envy of those who were there on this day.
