It was not a winter for the faint of heart off the coast of Half Moon Bay, California. The Pacific Ocean lit up and the world’s best big wave surfers were there to charge. And a new contest, the Mavericks Awards, was implemented this season to replace the one-day surf contest format.
Surfers from anywhere in the world who braved those waters were able to submit their best clips at the end of the season to an experienced, diverse judging panel. Peter Mel cleaned up at the awards after a season for the ages. But there were plenty of beautiful rides, regardless. The recap above was produced for the Mavericks Awards. We’re releasing it for you to enjoy. Like we said, it wasn’t a winter for the faint of heart.
