Taking surf coaching to the next level. The Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre’s new AIS Aerial Surf Skate Training Facility at Casuarina… Hurley Surfing Australia HPC Hurley Australian Institute of Sport

Surfing is a really hard sport to learn. It’s done on a medium that is constantly changing, never the same, and fickle as hell.
Airs take practice, and in order to practice you need to spend time doing them, but spending time doing them is especially difficult with surfing. In skating and snowboarding, you can practice the same thing over and over until you nail it. In surfing, however, you blow it, then wait for a similar section, then blow it, then wait for a similar section, ad nauseum.
But Surfing Australia is aiming to make it easier. They’ve created a training facility strictly for learning airs… but they’ve done it with a skateboard. Some of the best aerial surfers in the world are incredible on a skateboard, and it’s not a coincidence.
With the kids able to practice on something like what Surfing Australia has created, who knows what the future will look like?
