The Inertia

“Surfing at 6,000 feet is pretty special,” says Waves 4 Water founder and local ripper, Jon Rose. “It’s usually (a) novelty and I ride a soft-top, just to go through the motions. And today I was able to bust out my shortboard, so for me that’s a 10. Because you can do turns, and it was [real] surfing, you know?”

It’s hard to score at Lake Tahoe, where miniature wind events dictate even smaller windows of short-interval wind swell, but being within such easy striking distance of the California coast, all Dylan Graves had to do was wait for his friend Big Dog to give him the call. And when Big Dog says there’s going to be a wind event like he’s never seen before, you go. In Weird Waves Season 3, Episode 4, Dylan and co. head to the mountains, and find surf.
