According to a report by the Santa Cruz Sentinel, 44-year-old San Francisco surfer Jonathan Luhn died while surfing near Ocean Beach on Wednesday just days after the spot was named an official contest site of the 2011 Rip Curl Pro Search.

Luhn was a co-founder and surf instructor at Aloha Wave Riders in Santa Cruz and regularly surfed at Four Mile Beach. His body was found floating in the water on Wednesday afternoon, and he was pronounced dead at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.
