In June, a group of longtime surf media people held a contest at one of the most famous barrels in the world. At least famous in terms of modern-day surfing. Skeleton Bay is a tough place to get to, so this little surf contest, dubbed the Skeleton Bay Shootout, featured a bunch of really good surfers, that aren’t necessarily on tour. But man, the tube time was ridiculous.
A group called Now Now Media produced the contest, along with famous surf lensman, Alan van Gysen. And the trial run looked amazing so you can bet there’ll be more contests at this spot in the future, says Now Now Media, on its YouTube page.
Max Elkington took home a cool $10,000 as the surfer that scored the most. But it looks like everyone got what they came for.
