The Inertia

It’s been roughly two minutes since we saw something crazy happen at the Superbank, so here’s a drop-in from a surf lifesaving boat. The guy getting dropped in on probably feels like his life is about to be taken?

The five-man crew of the vessel in question steamed its way through the lineup with a fearless determination not seen since Normandy. I can’t imagine the shock of battling your way through the Superbank lineup, finally managing to duck and weave through the unruly mob of burners long enough to make a drop, only to be confronted by a rowboat blasting its way through your wave. So do these paddlers need a leash, like surfers in Byron Bay? Probably wouldn’t help but something seems amiss here.

Luckily, it appears that no one was hurt, at least according to Raw Surfing in its YouTube description. However, this sets a troubling precedent for Superbank drop-ins in the future. What’s next, an aircraft carrier? This might signal the start of some sort of snake arms race, one that can only end with a spacecraft landing module dropping out of the sky directly onto Occy’s head.
