The Inertia

If a surfer were to practice this Prone Decompression series once a day for a week, they would surf better and feel better surfing. This series requires your body to make improvements in hip, neck, ankle and shoulder range of motion through sustained contraction of several specific muscles that surround the pelvis and a few other well considered movements. Also, it’s only four minutes long.

Groms bending and twisting with the unhealthy flexibility of young gymnasts and seasoned watermen with the rigid structure of the first wooden long board they learned on are far too common. We can do better. The uncomfortable edges of the healthy movement spectrum are avoidable, preventable, fixable, and often unnecessary.

I want you to surf more often — we are all friendlier when we do. I want to help you recognize the extraordinary ability you have to heal your own body, and I hope you, in turn, help others recognize the same ability in them, too. To be completely honest, though, I am here to share my exercises in hopes of being invited on surf trips all over this beautiful world of ours.
