The Pipeline Invitational in memory of Duke Kahanamoku is a different event than most. It’s more than just a shortboard event–run by the Waterman League, it’s an invitation-only event with 32 of the “most respected Pipe and Backdoor surfers being chosen to do battle in the ultimate surfing arena.” Also included is a longboard division and bodysurf division, making one of the most inclusive events in surfing.
With a waiting period running from January 4th to January 14th, four days will be devoted to the non-shortboard divisions. Outside of shortboarding, there are some real legends who will be in attendance, including Bonga Perkins, Lance Ho’okano, Makamai DeSoto and Dino Miranda. The invitees to the SUP event are as follows.
