The Inertia

There are few surfers who exited the tour quite like Bobby Martinez. None, actually, and since that “tennis-tour” mic drop, Bobby has stuck to his guns. Now, he surfs when and where he wants. Surfs how he wants. And he still surfs like only Bobby Martinez can surf. Sadly for fans of his particular way of riding waves, we don’t see him all that much. In Sunburn, which Tanner Gudauskas called an “independent surf film made by friends,” Bobby is joined by Tanner Gudauskas, Patrick Gudauskas, Yadin Nicol, Chris Ward, Eithan Osbourne, Dylan Graves, and Andrew Jacobson.

It’s a pretty good cast, to say the least. The majority of Sunburn was filmed in California, but there’s a bit of Hawaii footage thrown in for good measure. Many surf films these days are a little more on the artistic side of things, but Sunburn feels like a bit of a throwback. Light on narration and heavy on surfing, the film is 18 minutes of just plain old amazing surfing.
