River surfing is blowing up. It’s taken a long time to get to where it is–and it’s still a relatively small sport–but it is coming into its own. There’s probably a few factors at work in its growth. Not everyone is lucky enough live near the ocean, but everyone enjoys the feeling of riding waves. And as surfers have moved inland over the years, they discovered rideable waves on rivers. Where the sport actually started is tough to pinpoint, though. But Montana–and specifically the stoked out crew in Missoula–has definitely played a big part the sport’s development in the U.S. And as more and more whitewater parks have been built around the country, more and more people are learning to ride boards in fresh water. And when these waves are built, they help the communities and bring positive energy into areas that weren’t always blessed with it. This short film from Jordan Halland is proof.
