The Inertia

“Crikey!” Even 15 years after his passing, Steve Irwin is as big a legend as ever. This week, footage started to surface of an old television episode featuring Irwin shredding in Indonesia: “Lookin for hot snakes, and hot surf,” he yells into the camera before footage of him pumping down the line in reef booties and his signature brown outback wear fills the screen.

When Irwin passed away in 2006, he was honored with a paddle out and a surf contest, the Steve Irwin Classic where surfers competed for the Crikey Cup. The man was a legend, and Australia was there to honor him. “He was really damn good,” wrote a Reddit user when the subject of his surfing came up several years ago. “I remember watching one of his documentaries and he explained how he basically destroyed the ligaments in one or maybe even both of his knees so he had to stop.”

Well, at least we have this footage to remember an iconic human by.
