The Inertia

Good Pipeline and crowds are pretty much inseparable. As the proving ground for most of the world’s best surfers, and one of the best waves in the world, you can be sure that if the wave is good there will be surfers out. But when the Vans Triple Crown is running, and there’s money and bragging rights on the line for the best clips, things seem to have stepped up a notch or two in terms of the crowd factor.

Yesterday morning saw some pretty fine surf come through the North Shore of Oahu. Off Da Lip has been camped out at Pipe this season, and was there to catch the Sunday morning session. It was by no means all time, but damn did the waves look fun… and crowded. My favorite part of the video is actually the list of people in it. ODL was able to match a few names to waves, and as you go down the list you start to realize just how competitive it is out there when Pipe is breaking and a digital contest is running. Carissa Moore was out chasing a follow-up VTC title, Billy Kemper bagged a few, as did Seth Moniz, Barron Mamiya, Eithan Osborne, and plenty of others.
