It all started when my Tahitian partner and I decided to dedicate our annual trip to simply filming one rad video. Years ago I went on a trip to Hawaii that sparked the creation of what’s become my life’s work. Inspired by the island life, sharing the surf stoke and spreading good vibes have been the same foundation of my business, so they were pretty much our guidelines for this video.
We wanted to show the vast array of water activities that French Polynesia has to offer and most importantly we wanted to show this amazing Tahitian lifestyle through the eyes of three passionate surfer girls who fully embrace the spirit.
With the help of an awesome group of Tahitian friends – including Aude Lionet-Chanfour a local SUP rider sponsored by F-One and our local surf guide/ex-pro surfer Kevin Johnson- we were able to film in different locations, some only known to the locals, making the video even more authentic.
We didn’t really plan the shoot, we just did what we normally do when we’re in Tahiti: surfing, spearfishing, free diving, sailing. The only difference was this time we simply took a GoPro to capture these moments of spontaneous awesomeness. And that’s something I love about this highlight of our trip – it’s a bit shaky and messy, but as real as it gets.
To sum it up, Tahiti isn’t just about pro surfers charging 20ft Teahupo’o. It is a lot more accessible than you’d think and it’s definitely a place to visit at least once in your life. “This is TAHITI” is only a brief yet realistic overview of what the Polynesian islands have to offer and hopefully an inspiration for people – especially women- to get out there and do cool stuff. Lastly, I hope it’s a reminder of how beautiful our planet is. I hope it’s a reminder of how important it is to protect our oceans and marine wildlife so this amazing lifestyle can live on.
