The Inertia

Tim Boynthon’s slab tour of South Australia continues with the appropriately named “Death Slab – Part 2.” Boynthon and company returned to the same Southern Australian Slab that struck fear in our hearts a few weeks ago for some truly incredible waves.

Dylan Longbottom was out on injury, having broken four ribs and punctured his lungs in a horrific wipeout the day before, but he was on the shore to witness the action. The ridiculously heavy wave was braved by the likes of Cohem Thomas, Samuel Thomas, Kipp Caddy, Noah Hassett, Dean Watkins, Nathan Florence, and Dylan’s daughter Summa.

A particular standout comes at 6:48, with a paddle-in backdoor ride from Kip Caddy. Not to be outdone, Summa gets towed in to a monster at 7:40 that she rides with aplomb before narrowly avoiding being dragged over the falls. On the Jet Ski ride back, her enthusiasm is infectious. “So happy,” she says through a grin. “I think that was one of the best backhand barrels I’ve ever gotten!”
