As the son of skimboarding legend Bill Bryan, Indy Bryan has had big shoes to fill. But at just 15 years old, the Orange County skimboarder has already made a name of his own. He’s amassed a large following on Tiktok and Instagram due to his skills on finless board and gimmicky stunts like transferring from skateboards to skimboards, acid dropping skimboards in the snow, and skimming paved roads on rainy days.
In one of Bryan’s latest videos, he attempts to solve a Rubik’s cube while riding a standing river wave in Colorado on his skimboard. And after a minute and 37 seconds of keeping his balance while his hands were occupied with the cube, Bryan successfully solves the puzzle to the applause of onlookers.
“Solving a Rubik’s Cube while on a river wave was the hardest thing I have ever accomplished,” Bryan said in his Instagram post. “It required using my brain and my body at 100 percent.”
In the video, Bryan throws the cube onto the land and it appears that it isn’t solved, but he provides an explanation for discrepancy.
“As I threw the cube as hard as I could it did a turn,” said Bryan. “So in cubing terms they would call that +2 seconds. Either way I’m stoked to bring this dream to reality.”
While Bryan may be the first person to complete (or even attempt) this stunt while skimming a standing wave, it’s not a novel idea while riding a board. The semi-ridiculous feat has been done in other sports, like windsurfing, wakesurfing, and surfing (on his stomach…).
