Across the scorched deserts of Africa, located off the northern Namibian coast, lives one of the craziest and longest barreling lefts on the planet. To get there you have to cross hundreds of miles of hot, arid desert that is full of lions, scorpions and a variety of other things that can kill you in the blink of an eye.
Not only is Skeleton Bay one of the most incredible waves in the world, it’s the wave where Koa Smith captured an epic barrel on his GoPro which landed him $20,000 USD. Skeleton Bay is rough; it is certainly not for the type of surfer who demands easy beach accessibility and a gallon of warm water to rinse off after a cold surf. Oh, and did I mention Skeleton Bay is rife with giant great white sharks?
