A few weeks ago, North Shore lifeguard and big-wave charger Dave Wassel inspired an Internet sensation after discussing a horrific scenario in Tahiti involving an egregious burn on a giant wave and the disappearance of his full-body erection. He explained the whole thing while sharpening a machete beside a dead fish. In response, local bodyboarder John Duval generously submitted the Tahitians’ perspective about the drop-in event, which ultimately boiled down to an issue of respect, safety, and sexual frustration.

Incidentally, a similar situation occurred in Santa Monica last week when a Southern California surfer was snaked by a bodyboarder on an inflatable Great White Shark. In the video above, Jacob, a seasoned Los Angeles surfer, cordially explains how the dramatic event transpired, and, more important, how it has affected his ability to maintain a healthy erection or have meaningful sex with his wife.

“It’s really hard to get excited in this when you’ve been doing it for a while,” says Jacob. “It’s hard for me, personally, to get hard. I probably am only able to achieve a full-body, middle school style erection one or two times a year… It’s kind of a bummer…That little piece of shit ruined my sex life.”

The offending bodyboarder on an inflatable shark seemed unaware of the offense he committed.

Here’s hoping they all get laid (and full-body barreled) real soon.

For reference, the video enumerating the drop-in situation involving Dave Wassel and Tahitian bodyboarder John Duval is below.

Every time a surfer is burned, an erection dies.
