A surfer stuck on the rocks below Cliff House was rescued by the San Francisco Fire Department Friday evening. According to the SFFD account on X, formerly known as Twitter, a surfer became separated from their board and subsequently got stuck on rocks. In response, the San Francisco Fire Department Coastal Rescue rappelled down the cliff face to retrieve the stranded surfer, as documented in social media posts.
The San Francisco landmark has been perched atop the cliffs north of Ocean Beach since 1863, and this is not the first time SFFD has had to put on a rescue for someone stuck underneath the house. In June 2022, a man climbed down the cliff and found himself unable to get back up, prompting a similar rescue effort.
