Ryan Lovelace appears to dwell in his head quite a bit. Not a knock on the guy – it seems to be the case for most deeply-creative humans.
In addition to the Santa Barbara-native creating one of the most radical, converted buses we’ve ever seen (a 1948 Chevy he nicknamed the Cosmic Collider), Lovelace has been quietly pushing the limits of surf design – not least of which in the finless and displacement hull variety.
On a recent trip to the Indian Ocean with friends, Lovelace’s creativity and lifelong devotion to craftsmanship propelled him to look at local communities his crew was visiting with a different point of view.
“Perspective gained through removal from society, friendships made; unique but so akin,” says Lovelace of the short, called Relatable Form. “Fundamentals of life shared throughout time and space. Life appreciated. A study of handmade craft with water and nature between friends and other craftsmen from across the globe.”
