The Inertia

Ross Clarke-Jones has taken way more than his fair share of senseless beatings on waves of nearly unimaginable size. Nazaré’s a funny place–although it might look mushy and slopey, the sheer size of the waves there make it one of the heaviest places on the planet to surf. Ask anyone who’s been there, and they’ll tell you that it’s no joke.

Although Ross’s wipeout on December 12 may not look like much at first glance–the camera angle and distance makes it hard to really fathom just how much water is landing on him–if you watch it a few times, you’ll start to get a feeling for just how much power there must have been behind the whitewash.
