Back in 2020, Rob Machado was, as he generally is, thinking about how to make a surfboard that enabled him to have more fun. He’s got a lot of ideas around fun surfboards, but at that particular moment in time, his thoughts were flitting around a mid-length for any easy session that didn’t involve heavy thrashings and leaving pounds of flesh on the reef. A Sunday morning kind of surfboard.
Now, of course, in 2022, we know that the board he came with would be called the Sunday. The 7’0 version is a cruiser; a board made for sweeping turns and paddling in early, but at the time the Sunday model was still in the prototype stage. The video above was shot in 2020 at Seaside, where he takes an experimental (it should be called the Saturday, really) Sunday out for a spin.
