The Inertia

Rob Machado is a living legend. He’s one of the best surfers on the planet, but he hasn’t surfed on tour for ages. He officially hung up the jersey in 2001, but only after winning 12 WCT events including the Pipeline Masters, ranking in the top 10 surfers in the world for 11 straight years, and being inducted not just once but twice into the Surfer’s Hall of Fame. And let’s not forget that he was the one who raised an arm in one of the world’s most memorable high-fives. Yeah, Rob is a legend.

He’s known as one of the most stylish surfers in the world, but he’s also known for being a generally smiley, relaxed, zen-filled guy. It doesn’t hurt that his life revolves around surfing, but still, Machado has a certain way about him that just screams “relaxed.” He’s calm under all forms of fire. In Vuori’s recent profile, The Rise. The Shine., Machado shares his life-long journey, from building a legacy of environmental stewardship to maintaining the surfing spark. It’s inspiring, to say the least.
