The Inertia

There’s a lot to be said for surfing the same wave, tide in and tide out, day in and day out, swell small or big swell. Little things learned on a small day translate into bigger things on a big day; the little nuances of a certain spot become more obvious and predictable the more you surf them. The problem with that, however, is that you have to surf said spot on every tide, every swell, every wind direction. But if you’re Rio Waida and that spot is Keramas, we’d wager it’s a little easier… Keramas is a good wave, to say the least. And Rio Waida is a good surfer. So good, in fact, that Ross Williams called him “the best surfer not on tour.

“Rio Waida is a standout at basically every spot he paddles out at here in Bali,” writes Surfers of Bali, “but his surfing is particularly well suited to the right handers of Keramas. There’s no one else who consistently surfs this wave as well as Rio, and he brings the whole package with airs, a polished rail game and a great read on the barrel.”
