The Inertia

“Nothing like snow days in the Ocean State,” photographer Patrick Murphy told us this morning. He’d woken up with a hunch that it’d be a unique day — Rhode Island’s first snow met with a few waves.

“I was watching the weather for the last couple of days and knew the swell might leave some leftovers with a nice blanket of snow to encapsulate it,” he told The Inertia. “With the roads still a little sketchy, I took a ride down to the local and, to my not-so-surprise, the boys were after it. There’s something so surreal about waves in the snow.”

And he’s not wrong. On any other clear day, the waves themselves would be worth one of those “just gotta get wet today” type of sessions, but the novelty of doing it all in the snow makes for some picturesque, surreal moments.
