You may have seen these clips roaming around the internet of Teahupo’o legend Raimana Van Bastolaer teaching lessons at the Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California? But if you haven’t, they’re absolutely brilliant. There’s Raimana on his soft-top – what looks like an 11-foot soft-top – getting barreled when no one else is on the wave. And then there’s Raimana using that same board as a tool, making miraculous saves of people just learning to surf.

You see, Raimana has become the Surf Ranch’s unofficial mascot, leading surf lessons there and helping people get barreled that probably have no business getting barreled. But the saves are remarkable as people try to stay on their boards, the Tahitian grabbing at any wetsuit material he can to help them recover.

His Instagram page is full of fantastic clips of him helping people learn how not to use the stink bug stance to their advantage. If you haven’t browsed his page, do so now. The visuals are outstanding.
