Some might say the clothing market is a saturated pile of horse shit. Today’s popular brands are like narcissistic little punks on the playground; they think they’re God’s gift to the world and therefore have a right to charge $150.00 for a simple t-shirt. It’s a t-shirt, bru. And one that I want to wear frequently without having to worry about it disintegrating into fibers and fluff if I don’t wash it right. Few brands understand the concept of wearability these days – a healthy balance of function and fashion. ourCaste seems to be one of those few.
Perhaps its because the ourCaste creators come from a background of surfing, skating, and riding motorcycles. They know what a lifestyle like that requires. The fall collection provides all the functionality needed for an outdoors lifestyle, yet at the same time, you won’t look like a granola-eating, sandal-wearing hippie. This stuff is REI chic.
Take for example the “Dylan” longsleeve thermal. Upon pulling the velvety fabric over my head, I noticed a pleasant dichotomy – the inside was soft and fluffy while the exterior was silky and strong. It’s warm and water-resistant, perfect for someone like myself trying to maintain feeling in my bones while en route to a dawn patrol surf session or while cruising on my bike down PCH on a dewy fall morning. And the absolute best part? Thumb gators. For those uninformed, these are the little slits in the cuff that you can stick your thumb through. You never knew you needed these things till you had ’em.
Pretty much perfect for fall. It’s built with moisture wicking technology – all the function of a windbreaker without that annoying chafing sound when you move around. This is an item of clothing that functions. Wear it out on the town on a chilly winter night. And then wear it again the next morning as you fight the hangover and head down to the beach for a surf. Talk about dual functionality.
The “Dylan” retails for $72 and is available alongside other items from the fall collection online or at their flagship shop in Newport Beach, Ca.
