The Inertia

The powerful swell predicted to hit California and the rest of the West Coast has arrived, and it seems to be taking names. Dispatches have come in from all along the California coast and while surf conditions have been hit or miss (unless you’re farther south), the damage and flooding has been serious.  As you can see in the footage above, a powerful wave slammed into a beach viewing area at the end of Seaward Avenue in Ventura, sending people and cars reeling.

According to the Ventura County Fire Department, “eight people were transported to local hospitals,” following the incident above. There’s been damage to structures all along the coast. You can see photographs as the powerful swell hit Pismo Beach, below. The woman in the video was nearly washed out to sea in Capitola, near Santa Cruz. As big as this swell was, it sounds like there’s another round on the way over the weekend. Stay tuned.
