The Inertia

Southern California is a nice place to be if you’re into nice weather, winding roads, and good waves. The sky is blue most of the time, the temperature for the most part not too cold and not too hot. Winding roads snake up narrow canyon roads, the glittering ocean shining on the horizon. If there ever were a place for a collaboration between a luxury car brand and a high-end surfboard brand, it’s Southern California. Which is why Porsche and Almond Surfboards just dropped a surfboard and apparel collection.

It’s worth noting that this is far from the first time high-end brands have dipped a toe in the surf space. Mercedes created a campaign and a surfboard for Garrett McNamara a few years back. Prada made what could be the most hideous surf booties ever created. Dior and Stussy joined forces to makes surfboards and a beach collection. Dior and Vissla held hands for a wetsuit collaboration, too.

The Porsche x Almond Surf Collection is made up of six pieces of apparel, two surfboards, a fin, a patch, and a keyring. While the apparel isn’t crazy expensive, the surfboards sure are. The first is a mid-length 7′ 10” Porsche x Almond Cash-Yew II Surfboard, while the second is a 9′ 11” Porsche x Almond The Surf Thump Surfboard.

“Both boards are offered in three iconic ‘60s era 911 liveries (Bahama Yellow, Polo Red, and Irish Green) as well as in one variant decorated in the legendary Pink Pig racing livery,” a press release reads. The “911” of course a nod to the famous Porsche model. “Requiring a six-to-eight-week build time, both boards are handcrafted on a made-to-order basis in Southern California and give buyers the option to select a race number to adorn the board.”

The 7’10” starts at $4,500 while the Surf Thump Surfboard starts from $5,500, so neither would likely be your daily driver… unless you have Porsche money.
