Pedro Scooby is a staple at giant Nazaré. Every big swell will likely include a bit of Scooby, and with each passing year, it’s clearer and clearer how much that mounting experience plays a role. Of course, tow surfing is a team sport, and Scooby was quick to give credit to Nic von Rupp, who was driving the ski he was being pulled by in the video above.
At this year’s Nazaré Tow Surfing Challenge, he was yanked into an absolute bomb that gifted him with what could be the biggest barrel we’ve ever seen surfed at Nazaré. He was awarded a 9.50 for his efforts, and as one might expect, he was… fired up afterwards. Fired up to say the least, as evidenced by his post-heat interview.
“It was a crazy heat,” Scooby said. “We chose the wrong waves at the beginning and I was going crazy but Nic [von Rupp] calmed me down and ended up putting me on a bomb. His driving put me in the perfect spot and I just did the rest. The barrel was really good.”
