In July of 2021, when travel restrictions were clamping down, Dylan Lightfoot and Chris Rogers navigated the craziness to get themselves to Indonesia. They ended up at the Mentawai Surf Camp, and as they expected, it was basically a ghost town. The trip also happened to coincide with a run of swell that, under normal circumstances, would have attracted all manner of surfers.
A while back, Lightfoot and Rogers created a video from J-Bay that looked as though it was straight out of a video game. Using a GoPro Max, some camera mounts, and the DJI Air 2s Drone, they managed to make something that felt new in a space inundated with clip after clip of things that… well, things that look pretty much the same.
“We have taken the concept of our J Bay video to the tropics,” Lightfoot wrote, “showcasing our unique camera angles at the waves in the Playgrounds area.”
And after watching, we gotta say we would very much have liked to have been in the Ments during that particularly strange time that will (hopefully) not happen again any time soon.
