The Palm Springs Surf Club wave pool broke again. As the facility confirmed in an email to customers, its wave pool is currently non-operational, with no timeline yet for when it will return.
The setback is just the latest in a series of issues the facility has faced, ever since its announcement way back in 2018. Though it was originally planned to debut in 2020, COVID-related delays pushed that date back to January 1, 2024. Then, once the facility finally did open, the wave pool became non-operational after only a few weeks. At the beginning of this month, the PSSC was able to get the pool working again, just in time for a Coachella event, but it appears the beast of technical difficulties has reared its head once more.
The first rumblings of an issue were heard yesterday, when several Reddit users reported their sessions had been canceled. One particularly unlucky commenter wrote that they found out the wave was closed only after they had already made it to the PSSC parking lot for a 9:00 a.m. Tuesday slot.
“First, we want to apologize to the people who wanted to come out and surf,” read the press release emailed to the PSSC mailing list. “We know many of you have scheduled trips to come surf and we have disappointed you. Again, we are sorry. If you have a surf session booked with us, you will receive a cancellation email along with a full refund. The goal of this business is to serve up great waves, delicious food and drinks, fun music, and good times. Please know we are trying our hardest to bring the magic of surfing to the desert of Palm Springs.”
They added that, “When you talk with the executives at the other wave pool clubs in the USA and hear their stories, we appreciate and respect the hard work and incredible journey those teams traveled to get their waves operational. Modern wave pool technology is an emerging field that is young and complex.”
As before, while the pool itself is non-operational, the rest the park is still open. Other facilities, such as the water slides, resort pool, lazy river and restaurant, remain available to guests. The club also still plans on holding several live music events to coincide with Stagecoach this weekend.
