The Ripcurl Cup at Padang Padang is a simple premise, really. Eight of the best tube riders from Indonesia and eight of the best tube riders from around the world go toe-to-toe at rifling Padang Padang to crown a champ.
Over the weekend, the contest was called on. You may have missed it if you were swept up in the hysteria of a different cup of the world variety.
In typical fashion, Padang was pumping. And of the 16 invitees, eight currently remain.
Not only was the first day an eventful one, the forecast is currently lining up to be historic. If the contest doesn’t resume today, explains the WSL, “A monster swell, the largest to hit Indonesia in years, is looming for Thursday, July 19th.”
And while the eight remaining surfers are licking their chops, one surfer isn’t too psyched: Mason Ho.
Currently somewhere in the world on #theSearch with Mick Fanning, the Robin to Mick’s Batman, Mason heard Padang was, and is, going to be pumping, and he’s not just bummed. He’s pissed.
We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop when the action resumes for the following semi-final matchups.
Semifinal 1: Jacob Willcox (AUS), Bruno Santos (BRA), Agus “Blacky” Setiawan (IND), Made Adi Putra (IND)
Semifinal 2: Jack Robinson (AUS), Mega Semadhi (IND), Josh Kerr (AUS), Garut Widiarta (IND)
