The San Francisco city medical examiners office has identified a surfer who drowned at Ocean Beach on Friday as 43-year-old Jay Seideman of Oakland. The news broke last week that Seideman was pulled from the water at the notoriously dangerous stretch of San Francisco coast at around 12:30 p.m. with emergency crews trying to resuscitate him. Fire Department officials reported that he died later that afternoon after being rushed to a hospital.
Siedeman was the senior vice president of advertiser demand platforms with Oath, which is owned by Verizon. He also ran the Oath Foundation, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to improving the lives of women, girls, and underserved youth. And since the news of his death, the late Seideman’s coworkers at Oath have started a $50,000 fundraiser to support his family.
“There was nothing more important to him than family. He loved spending time with SaraJane and his boys whether it be in their Oakland home or on the beach in Hawaii,” the GoFundMe page reads. “He brought out the very best in his friends and family – not to mention you could always count on Jay for some light-hearted fun. Jay loved adventure, music, and of course, ad tech.”
The fundraiser was launched on Monday, December 10th and reached nearly $130,000 by Wednesday afternoon with the contributions of more than 800 people, well over the initial $50,000 target.
“What we initially thought was an ambitious goal of $50,000 has been far exceeded,” an updated version of the fundraiser page reads. “The true goal of this is to support the Seideman family, not achieve a dollar amount. Despite surpassing the original goal, this page will continue to remain open for contribution.”
