The Inertia

On December 3, Ocean Beach in San Francisco did exactly what everyone loves it to do: it got giant. It’s a notoriously difficult place to surf when it’s big. The paddle out alone is enough to deter most people, but the beatdowns it can dish up once you’ve made it out the back are so brutal they’re likely to make those who can make it out think twice. But, as with any other big wave joint, Ocean Beach has a dedicated crew who both enjoy the paddle out and the beatdowns — because you gotta pay to play. And Ocean Beach definitely makes you pay.
