The Inertia

Occy’s been in the surfing game for a long time. He’s a legend, to say the least, and one of surfing’s most-loved characters. Although he’s not competing anymore, he’s still got his fingers firmly embedded into surfing’s many different flavors of pies. The newest flavor, of course, is the wave pool, and perhaps the most visually interesting wave pool is Surf Lakes. You know the one: it looks like it’s straight out of Mad Max.

Occy’s been on the Surf Lakes team for a few years now, and in those years wave pools have come about a million miles. Occhilupo, in fact, was in a wave pool contest about three decades ago, and at the time he assumed that a reasonable wave would get pumped out any day. But here we are, thirty-some-odd years later, and only now is the wave pool game producing quality waves.

Like any other emerging technology, Surf Lakes ran into a few issues in the testing phase, but back in mid-March, they announced that they’d signed a full license contract with a group in California. Details have yet to be announced. In the recently released video you see above, Occy pumps the tires of the Surf Lakes 5 Waves technology.

Mark Occhilupo delves deeper into the many advantages of Surf Lakes 5 Waves technology from Surf Lakes on Vimeo.
