The Inertia

There are few things in the world of surf that make people more upset than foilboards and drones. Maybe SUPs or boogie boarders, but you get the idea. Oooh, people get so mad when someone is surfing on anything other than a standard shortboard (must be a thruster) with a standard wetsuit (absolutely no color). But look! This is Eric Sterman’s monstrous drone towing someone around on a hydrofoil, which is sure to get the internet commenters all fired up from across an ocean.

According to the Instagram of Aaron Eveland’s Makai Creative, we should stay tuned for the full video that’s going to drop soon. As one might imagine, towing a full grown man with a drone wasn’t exactly easy. The crew did have a few false starts, but as with many false starts, something wonderful was born: the world’s first running start on a foilboard. Kai Lenny is kicking himself that he didn’t think of this first.

This is what the loyal to the foil crowd is all about. “No waves?” asked Eveland on Instagram. “No problem! All the boys were goofing off and @joshdagram tried this and we all thought he was crazy. Sure enough, he did it and is probably the first to do this in the ocean and I had to try. We looked like absolute looks trying, but that is what true #loyaltothefoil is all about.”
