The Inertia

There’s just a day to go until the opening of the waiting period for the Surf City El Salvador Pro. The fourth stop on the WSL Championship Tour takes place at Punta Roca, a right-hand point break located on the outskirts of La Libertad, El Salvador.

The break forms an eminently rippable wave, which has become a favored venue for competitive surfing in recent years. La Libertad, or ‘Surf City’ as it has been marketed, has been a WSL mainstay since the 2022 Championship Tour season and played host to the 2021 and 2023 ISA World Surfing Games.

All that action has created plenty of fodder for highlight reels – as the WSL proved in a recent post to its YouTube channel. In anticipation of the upcoming CT competition, they pulled together an edit of all the rides that scored above a nine at the venue.

“Where the Pacific’s perfect right-hand point break meets an unparalleled competition venue, the Surf City El Salvador Pro delivers an opportunity for CT athletes to earn critical points in the rankings ahead of the Mid-season Cut,” writes the WSL in the caption. “Long, powerful walls offer endless opportunity for progressive maneuvers while the hollow sections demand split-second decision-making that can test even the most seasoned CT competitor. As the season’s fourth event, El Salvador marks a pivotal moment in World Title campaigns.”
