Have you ever been night surfing? Oh, it’s a blast. The full moon shining down, the white of a breaking wave the only real visible part aside from city lights and a few stars reflecting on the water. It can be eerie, too, but that’s all part of the fun. With the rise in wave pools all over the world, night surfing is likely to become far more popular. No more is just for full mooners or those who park a bunch of trucks on the sand with their headlights pointing out to the horizon.
With waves on demand, a bunch of spotlights are all that’s needed to surf far into the morning hours. Stu Kennedy, Connor O’Leary, Mitch Crews, and Jackson Baker traveled from Australia to northern Spain to give the Wavegarden Cove’s demo model—which is 20 percent the size of a commercial facility— a go in the middle of the night. “Surfing at night time is just awesome”, exclaimed Stu Kennedy. “It’s amazing just how much more surf time we are going to have now that we can surf at night.”
