The Inertia

Wave pools have changed surfing pretty drastically. Landlocked would-be surfers who used to have to rely on trips to the coast now have other options. Take, for example, Swiss surfers. They have a little something called Alaia Bay, a place that Nic von Rupp was recently fortunate enough to visit.

“I never imagined I would surf some perfect waves in landlocked snowy Switzerland,” Nic said. “As a kid I used to spend a lot of time looking at Geneva Lake dreaming about a perfect rolling left underneath the Swiss Mountains. That dream is now a reality thanks to Alaia Bay wave pool with lefts and rights offering perfect conditions to the Swiss surfing community.”

While it’s not exactly on Geneva Lake, the Alaia Bay wave pool is close enough. Of course, when one is surfing in the Alps, one must also taste the other flavors in the area. So after a solid three-hour session with only Nic and a handful of others out, they decided to head up the mountain to surf a different form of water.
